PREP TIME– 20-30 Minutes
ITEMS NEEDED– 5 Gallon Bucket, Large Garbage Can (25-35 gallons) per Team
GAME TIME– 10-20 Minutes
PARTICIPANTS– Teams of 10
Before you begin, make sure to poke holes in the 5 gallon bucket. You can easily do this with a drill. A few holes on the bottom and several on the sides of each bucket should suffice.
The game works best if you have a lake or body of water nearby for participants to fill their buckets with. In lieu of that, you can pre-fill several additional large garbage buckets for participants to dip their five gallon buckets into. Just have a hose continually running water into them.
Have teams line up next to their trash can in a single-file line. When the game begins, one person from each team will take their teams “holey” bucket and run to fill it with water. Their goal is to fill it up by running back to their garbage container with the bucket and dump the remaining water into the bucket.
Of course, the goal is to lose as little water as possible. Once they are done, they pass the bucket to the next person in line and repeat the process.
The first team to Fill It Up is the winner!
1. Do a test run with your bucket. Drill a few holes and then add to it as you go. This ensures that you don’t drill too many holes and make the game impossible for participants.
2. You can also use a pool to fill the buckets up.
3. If you aren’t able to round up garbage cans, have teams use a large cup with holes to fill up a 5-gallon bucket.
4. Award the winning team some nice cold glasses of water for all their effort!
