5 Second Summaries from The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon

5 Second Summaries is another great game from The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. This is a great one since it requires absolutely no set up and can easily be played with a larger group to include more people.

As you can see, Jimmy and James Franco do a great job giving clues, even with a self-imposed shorter time limit.

GAME TIME– 5-15 Minutes

PARTICIPANTS– 2 groups

INSTRUCTIONS

5 Second Summaries is exactly as it sounds. Split the group into two sides and have each team select 3 people to summarize a movie (they will go one at a time).

Team 1 will go first with the person summarizing the movie coming to the front. They will then look at the sheet of paper. Once they look, give them five seconds to give clues. At the end of that time, the group has 10 seconds to come up with the right movie (they can guess more than once).

The only rules for 5 Second Summaries are that they can not say actors/characters names or any words in the title of the movie. Here are some suggestions, but feel free to come up with some of your own.

  • Despicable Me
  • Frozen
  • Avengers (or any Marvel movie)
  • Lego Move
  • The Matrix
  • The Lion King
  • Back to the Future
  • Monsters Inc
  • Rocky
  • Jurassic Park
  • Ratatouille
  • Star Wars (any of them)
  • Finding Nemo
  • Pitch Perfect
  • Fast & Furious
  • Jumanji

If the team guesses the movie, they are awarded a point. The team with the most points is the winner.

Bonus Play

Give teams a chance to steal. They get only one guess to do so.

Have an extra movie title on hand in case of a tie. Give clues slowly and see which team can guess first.

BONUS TIPS

1. Give contestants a bit of grace if they give a clue after the 5 second time period – 5 seconds isn’t a lot of time!

2. Give away some popcorn or other movie items to the winning team.
